Housekeeping

I always thought that my kids were the mess makers but when you live alone you find out the real truth about yourself. It may have been me the whole time! Me, myself and I live in this 2 bedroom, 2 bath townhouse and it seems to always be a mess. Every other day I leave for work and say to myself, "when I get home tonight I am not going to bed until I have this place whipped back into shape". I get home and I think I am just going to sit and finish watching Oprah or check my email, other then getting up to get something to eat or go to the bathroom, that is about as far as I get! I think I just don't care that much anymore.
To be fair to myself I did have two kids who always seemed to leave a trail wherever they went. It always seemed easier to leave the wrapper on the table, counter top or floor then put it in the garbage. But it is true the more things change the more they stay the same. Now that Lora lives on her own she does a pretty good job keeping a nice place but when she comes home.... well I'll just put it this way, I can tell exactly where she has been and her suitcase looks like it threw up in my office.
My kids always accused me of cleaning all the time (which really was not true) that would no longer be an issue. I think the biggest difference is whatever the mess, now it is MY mess. So why do I morn for the days when I cleaned up every one's mess? Maybe it is just the energy I had that I miss. Then again I think I miss both.

Winter Woes

Yuck not only was it cold today but it snowed way more then the weather man said it would but why should that surprise me? Are they ever right? There is a syndrome called SAD that people get in the winter months from lack of sunshine. It is treated by using sunlamps. I am sure those lights were turned on full blast today. It was a day that a good ten minutes in a tanning bed would have felt really nice. It is just too cold to make any unnecessary stops! I really do not like winter and the older I get the more I hate it.

Still no word on my car and no check either, but then there was no mail today. Hopefully the check will come tomorrow because if my car is done I don't know what I will do. Sure don't want the shop holding my car hostage. I am also anxiously awaiting the estimate on the damage to my rear bumper. If I can afford to get that fixed I will have to wait until it is nice outside so I can walk to work otherwise I will have to spring for a rental.

I was kind of lazy tonight did not do much more then eat some dinner and wash up my dirty dishes, which by the way only serves to dry my hands out more then they already are. Winter is tough on out bodies as well as our cars and the pocketbook paying for those higher heat bills. It is really hard for me to find much that I like about winter. I will admit that the snow can be beautiful and we have had some beautiful days where the sun shines and the trees glisten with frost but I still like the warm weather better. I don't remember hating winter when I was a kid in Southwest Minnesota. Maybe it is because when we are young we do not mind playing outside until our toes were numb and getting to stay home from school when the roads were too bad to travel. Maybe it is because we had so much fun sledding from the roof and down the hill into the woods. Oh to be young again!

My Weekend

I had a busy weekend and it felt really good. I am beginning to feel like I have a life again. Despite the bitter cold, of which I have had enough, I don't have much to complain about. I spent most of Saturday at Morgan's basketball tournament in Lennox. The first game was at noon and they won it 34 to 2. This put them in the winners bracket and the worse they could do was finish 4th out of 8 teams. The next game was a low scoring game but a really tough. Those girls from Sioux City were mean. The refs refused to call fouls so there was something like 200 jump balls! Keep in mind these are only 5th grade girls. They lost but fought hard. It always amazes me when I watch them play how well they handle the ball and how serious they are. After that game we all went to Pizza Ranch and those composed serious girls turned into giggly little girls again. The last game was for 3rd place. Again a low scoring game and they had a chance to win but the earlier game had just taken too much out of them. We were so proud of Morgan, she got an elbow in the nose and we saw tears but she kept on playing until her coach noticed and pulled her out. It was a fun day but a pretty long one for Addie. She is just not used to having to sit in one place for a long period of time. She just has to be on the go all the time. We got back home about 8pm and I am sure the little pumpkin went right to bed.

Today was Morgan's first communion. Mom decided that she would venture out for church. I am not sure how much she really gets out of it. We have contemporary music which I know she is not used to and today Pastor Mel had the sermon and I think she has a hard time hearing her, but she did get to take communion with Morgan and that made it worth it. There was brunch at Chris and Nikki's but she declined to go there. She did not want to have to go out in the cold again but the real reason is then she would not get her noon meal at the apartments and she pays for that in her rent you know! Bob did come to church and to the kids for brunch but we did not talk much to each other and it really did not bother me. I think I am beginning to really let go.

Ran to Target and got a few things "I had to have" (I love those 75% off signs) and a prescription filled. Got my laundry done and finished my required reading for Tuesday night, I still have to do the questions. I also started a new book, a start on that bin I have to empty before I can buy anymore books.

As I type this I just watched the Giants miss what would have been a winning field goal with only 4 seconds left in a tied game against the Packers. As much as it pains me to say it I am glad. Packers won the toss as well so if they can just move the ball and get at least a field goal they are Super Bowl bound. Oh no Farve just got intercepted!!!! I keep thinking about the crazy people in the stands sitting outside in that freezing weather, are they nuts? Here goes another kick by the Giants and it.............is...................good! Damm! Won't be much of a Super Bowl again this year.

Still don't have my car back from the shop. I may not get it back until Tuesday. Luckily the insurance is extending my rental.

It sounds like this week we will not see much relief from the cold. The only positive thing I can say is that when it is 30 degrees again it will feel like a heat wave.

Back to work tomorrow.........The weekend just goes by too fast!

Bad Day/Good Day

I should have known that this was going to be a hard day when Austen decided to be ornery this morning. He is absolutely not a morning person. I could not get the little bugger up to get ready for school this morning. I tickled, I pulled the covers off, I took the pillow away,I pulled him off the couch. I told him that I guessed he could not stay over night on a school night again. He said he did not care. We'll see the next time he wants to stay. Yikes! Glad I do not have to deal with him every morning. I love him to death but he sure is stubborn. I am going to have him again on Friday night but it will be a whole different story on Saturday morning. I will be the one that wants to stay in bed. Nicole and Shannon are going to Omaha, his sister had her baby this morning. Austen is not going along because he is going to the Skyforce game with his friend Chase on Saturday night and spending the night there. I am sure he will enjoy that much more then driving to Omaha and back.

I knew before I ever even left for work this morning it was going to be a hard day. It was my coworker Amy's last day today. Amy is young enough to be my daughter, a hard worker and smart. I really liked to work with her and she and I think a lot alike. When she said she was leaving for a new opportunity I had really mixed emotions. I was very happy for her but felt bad for the rest of us. We were losing a wonderful coworker. She got a job for a company out of Minneapolis which does consulting with hospitals and clinics that use the same software we use at Sanford. She will be doing a lot of traveling but will stay living in Sioux Falls. This is the best time in her life for this, no husband, no kids. I felt so bad for her all day it was very hard for her and tears were shed. Amy, Congrats and enjoy the adventure! You are the best. The only thing good about it was we had treat day to help ease the pain of her departure. I could have grazed all day. Lois brought square dance bars and I had my fair share.

It really wasn't all bad today, I got my hair cut, which always feels good but I am always disappointed because I can never make it look the same as it does when I leave the salon. I just need Angi to come to my house every morning and blow it out for me! You think she would go for that? Ha! Sometimes I think it would be easier to do a Brittney and shave it off and just wear wigs. Not really but it is a thought.

I also got enough shows booked to order my case for my new business adventure. So that was exciting. This new life of my is getting busier and that is a good thing.

Bedtime Can't Come Soon Enough

Last night I did not get to bed until after midnight which is way past my bedtime. I suffered the consequences of that today. I was tired all day. I can not wait to go to bed. It was a long day at work but at least my house was warm when I got home!

I did get a couple of shows booked for my new business and that makes me really excited. Just have to firm up at least two more then I can order my case! I may not make a lot of money with this new adventure, I just may spend all I make getting stuff for myself, but that is not really the reason I am decided to become a sales rep for Signature Homestyles. It is more about getting out of the house and meeting new people.

Despite the fact I was so tired today I was really lonesome for Austen so I went out and picked him up. When I got there he was outside with a couple of little neighborhood girls. I asked him if one of them was his girlfriend, he was not amused. All the way back to my place he talked about one thing... Can we have Chinese for supper tonight? Well we had Chinese. He loves sesame chicken. We ha d a nice night together, worked on a puzzle played on the computer and watched American Idol. He got a big kick out the really bad singers. Austen loves to open a word document and write a story, most of the time he writes about Trinity I did not read what he wrote yet, I can't read it when he is around because it embarrasses him. Time for PJ's a bowl of ice cream then he climbed on the couch and fell asleep. He used to put up a fight about bed time but not much anymore. I think school wears him out.

Time for bed, 5:30 am comes really fast!

I Hate the Cold!!!!!

It was so cold out today and they say this was the warmest day we will have this week! Yikes. It was so cold at work today my hands were freezing. I ended up putting my sweater on and using my blanket (and I even had cuddle duds on). I could not get my hands warm. I do not work very well when I am cold. I wish we could have heaters like we used to but they are not allowed. Darn stupid rule if you ask me. Obviously the people who make these rules are the same people who have a fan blowing on them or can never wear sweaters or long sleeved shirts!

My place is always pretty warm so I was really looking forward to going home and warming up. I walked in the door and I realized that it was not warm at all. The thermostat said 60! I have hot water baseboard heat and it sounded like it was running but it just would not warm up so I called the management. Maintenance came right away, the motor was not working so they replaced it. I had group tonight then went for coffee so I thought when I got home it would be all warmed up but the temp had not changed much. It better warm up before morning or I will have an awful time getting out of bed in the morning.

Group went pretty well tonight I cannot talk much about it. It is kind of like what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. We all have slightly different stories and so far I am sure that we have only scratch the surface of everyone stories. We all have slightly or greatly different ways of dealing, but the hurt and the pain is the same. Some of us went for coffee afterward and it felt right. I have homework, they gave us a book to read so I have 2 chapters and a question sheet to do for next week. They tell us that we will probably make some new friends for life and I am hoping so but only if eventually we can talk about something other then failed marriages and exes.

Well better get to sleep or I will never be able to get up in the morning!

Chevy in the Shop

As usual on a Monday morning I had trouble getting out of bed. It did not help that it was really cold out this morning and it sounds like it will be all week. I am so ready for spring. I keep reminding myself that the days are getting longer.

The insurance companies for Enterprise Rental and the company insurance from Prairie Wave, who the gal worked for, finally figured out who was going to pay for the damage to my car. Enterprises' insurance is going to pay then they will have to recoup from Hartford. What a hassle, I had to do double of everything. I could have cared less who paid for it as long as it got fixed. I told them at the shop to do an estimate for me on my back bumper while it is there. That has to come out of my pocket. Well Lora's but we might as well say mine. So while my car is at the doctor I have a 2007 Chevy Impala to drive. I was just thankful that it had a remote start, I would have missed that. I think that is pretty standard now. We are such spoiled people!

I am getting excited about my new business adventure. I just have to get the dates for shows finalized and I can order my case, Hopefully that will happen this week.

Tomorrow the management is coming to do their yearly inspection of the townhouse. Checking the alams and such. Kind of a creepy feeling to know strange people are going to be in your place while you are not there.

Heard from Lora yesterday. Her financial aid came through for school so I think is is all ready to go. She is also getting ready for her trip to Hawaii the end of next month. Something just not right about your 25 year old going places you have never been. I guess I am just jealous.

My Mom

Today I had lunch with my Mom. Since my Dad passed away she has been living at Good Samaritan in the congregate building. She has a very nice apartment with a washer and dryer and they get one meal a day. They also have organized things for them to do on a pretty regular basis. Trips to the grocery store, to Target, movie night on Friday just to name a few. Someone does come in to clean her bathroom and the floors but otherwise she is pretty much on her own. It is very comforting for my siblings and I to know she is there where she has people around all the time. Despite everything she gets very lonely without my Dad. We all miss him so much.

Mom loves to have family come to have lunch with her. She loves to show off her family. She loves company any time they come. She loves to have the grands come and visit she loves them all so much. Today the choice was a pork chop or roast beef, baked potato and mixed veggies and some other vegetable. They always have a salad bar and a desert. Sometimes the food is better then other times but it is not about the food it is about the time with her.

She does not hear so well anymore but she has a hearing aid that she hates. She tells me about it every time and laments over the money spent on the "worthless thing" Truth be known she does hear better with it one on one, crowds are not so good. She worries about everything, everyone in her family and anything really sad she hears on the news. No matter how much we tell her not to worry she cannot help herself. Because of all the worrying she does I try not to tell her things I know she cannot do anything about but somehow she always knows when something isn't right. She doesn't cook as well as she used to but she still makes mean cooked rice which she makes often with all the milk she gets but doesn't drink at lunch. All in all she is in pretty good health and we are all grateful for that. She told me the other day she says every night when she goes to bed, "If I don't wake up that is okay." That breaks my heart but at the same time I can imagine how she feels. The mind and the body don't function like they used to and the man you were married to for 65 years is on longer there for you to care for. It cannot be easy. She has a few grandchildren she would really like to see married yet so she says she guesses she better stay healthy.

The picture of my Mom and I was taken at Chris and Nikki's at Christmas. Nikki set a very beautiful table. With Grandpa's Candle in front of Grandma's plate. Last Christmas was the first Christmas without Daddy. My daughter-in-law had bought a very beautiful candle and set in on the table. It was Grandpa's Candle. When her Grandpa passed away about 10 or 11 years ago her family had started this tradition for him so she thought it would be nice to have one for Grandpa Barron as well. So this Christmas once again Grandpa's Candle was lite as it will be for many a Christmas to come. Just one of the many reasons why I love my daughter-in-law so much.

Today was Morgan's Day

I started out my Saturday by waking up at 5 in the morning but I managed to stay in bed until 8 dozing on and off while I listened to CNN. I think there was a piece on about gangs, it made me think how lucky I am that my family and I live in a place where we do not have to hole up as soon as it gets dark or worry about drive by shootings as a way of life. I hope my grandchildren grow up understanding what nice lives they have.

After a quick trip to Target to fill a prescription, it I was off to Morgan's basketball games. It is so fun to see how the girls have improved. They are starting to really understand the game and some of those little girls are real scrappers. They always play two games and Morgan, not really being a morning person, doesn't usually find her legs until the second game. Today she scored in both games! She can be a really good defender too. They won the first game by quite a big point spread. The second game got really exciting. They played Dell Rapids which is a tough team. We lead the whole way but in the last minutes the other team came within 2 points. In the last seconds they took a shot and Morgan saved the day by defending the basket and graping the ball! We were all so proud. I think she has one of the biggest cheering sections and by the way we were yelling you would have thought they won a state championship. I am sure to Morgan the tween it was a little embarrasing. She also not only has to listen to her coach but she also has two wantabe coaches on the sidelines. (Daddy Jeff and Daddy Chris)

On the way home I stopped at the big Goodwill on the east side of town. NO I DID NOT BUY ANY BOOKS. I did not even look at them. Whew .... I did buy som e puzzles. I love to put puzzles together something I inherited from my Dad. Puzzles are expensive if you buy them brand new but only 75 cents at Goodwill. Austen loves to do puzzles too so when he comes to spend time with me it something we can do together, Some of the best talks I've had with him are while we are doing a puzzle. I like browsing the store just to see if there may be a treasure hidden amongst all the junk. I also find the people very interesting. Today there was a whole big family of Amish in the store, they were dressed just like the Amish we saw in PA. I did not see when they left if they were driving, because if they were then they were not Amish-Amish. In PA you never saw them driving but they could take a ride. I also stopped at Best Buy to use my Christmas gift card to buy a laser wireless mouse for my new laptop. Thanks Chris and Nikki!

By the time I got home it was almost time for the Green Bay/Seahawks game. As much as it pains me to say it I wanted the Packers to win. It was snowing so hard that they had guys with shovels working furiously to get the yard lines as clear as possible. Now that is the way football should be played. (As long as I am watching from my couch) One of my co-workers is from Green Bay. She went home this weekend and was going to the game. I thought about her sitting in the stands in the snow. I am happy for her that they won.

I did get some things accomplished today, Got my laundry done, did some cleaning and went to the mall and bought an Ansel Adams calendar. I am kind of picky about my calendar. It had to have pictures I like to look at but more importantly it had to be on a spiral. My choices were fairies or Ansel Adams. Good thing I appreciate Ansel Adams.

Friday

It is finally Friday!
About every other month or so I get one of those emails that contains questions personal questions that the sender answers. You are supposed to answer the same questions then send back your answers to the person who sent it to you and to others. A common question on these emails is what is you favorite day of the week? My answer is Friday. On Friday I know I do not have to set the alarm that night, I know that for two days I do not have to go to work. It is not that I hate going to work because I am truly happy at my job, I love the people I work with and for the most part I enjoy the work I do. It is more about being able to sleep until I feel like getting up, and the feeling of a free day.

Speaking of emails I think I have gotten the one warning me how evil Obama is at least 10 times. I have yet to read the whole thing. I always wonder just where did some of these emails start? I have yet to make a firm decsion on who I will vote for when the SD Primary comes around but I hope that I will base by decsion on something other then an email that I have no idea who the source is. I am also pretty sure that that I will never any profit from the email I got promising me $100 from Microsoft if I forward it to 10 people with in ten minutes. Pretty sure that if it sounds too good to be true it is.

Email has totally changed communication. I can not tell you the last time I got a personal letter written just to me. I myself am guilty of not writing letters anymore either. It has really become a lost art. It is really kind of sad when you think about it, grammar and spelling does not seem to matter anymore either. I remember when we lived in Pennsylvania, when I would get a letter in the mail. I was so excited to read it I could hardly wait to get in the door rip it open and read. The best part about letters especially when you lived far away from everyone you loved, is that I could read it over and over again. Blogging is sort of like writing a letter but yet different. It is more like writing in a journal but yet different. A journal you write hoping no one reads it until maybe after you are gone. Blogging you write hoping someone else reads it.

Tomorrow being Saturday I am happy to say I have no real plans except to go to Morgan's basketball games. After that I am going to play it by ear. That is why I like Friday, because the next day is Saturday.

Just Another Day

Nothing too exciting happened today, nothing out of the ordinary. Went to work, tried real hard to solve everyones issues by 4:00 (did not even come close), came home had a bite to eat, read the mail, read my book and watched the last new episodes of Grey's. The writers really need to resolve this strike.

Not much going on in my head tonight. I did get $20 worth of certificates to Chili's in the mail! Not quite the meal a week for myself and all my friends for the rest of my life that Sheila thought they should give me, but good enough for me.

I am tired think I just need to go to bed. Maybe tomorrow I will have something more exciting to say.

"Cuba"

I work in what is affectionately known as "Cuba". When you walk into our side of the building and get past the reception desk, pretty much all you can see are the walls of cubicles. Each cube is configured almost exactly the same except that some desks face the right and some the left. We all have two overhead cupboards, we all have the same amount of desktop space, we have two large file folder drawers on the long side, three smaller drawers on the short side and with the exception of the lucky or unlucky few, depending on how you feel about it, have a window, we all have a big white board. But that is where the similarities end. You can tell a lot about the person who lives in the square little space by taking a close look at their cube. We don't really have a lot of rules about our cubes so we can pretty much do what we want with them.

Some cubes are completely organized and no matter what time of the day you walk past them there never seems to be a thing other then maybe a pen or a pencil out of place. The walls are pretty much bare except for an Epic Certification Plaque, a calendar and absolutely only the most necessary informational pieces of paper. There may be one picture of a spouse or children. Those cubes are always subject to question does the person who live here really work? Or are they coming or going. Kind of like some peoples homes you can never really tell if they are moving in or moving out.

Some cubes look lived in during working hours. The desk is strewn with papers but they are also neatly in order, things are pretty much always under control. The walls say that the occupant is there to stay and there are a few pictures a knickknack or two but when the end of the day comes Everything is put back into place. It says I will be ready to start fresh in the morning.

Then there are the cubes that look like the occupant never goes home. Quite honestly as if bomb could have gone off in it. The walls have notes pinned on top of notes, there is no bare space on the desktop, and you wonder how anything can possibly be found! Since there is no longer any room on the desk the floor will have to do. It is weird but some of these people seem to get the most done in the day.

Personal items vary from cube to cube. There are the cubes that can always be counted on to have a candy dish that is kept well filled, some where the soda cans, and the styrofoam cups accumulate through the week. You can tell the pet lovers, the pet pictures almost always out number the people pictures. There are the sports fanatics, who fill their space with anything belonging to their sport and team of choice. There are the collectors, whether it be Mickey Mouse or something else, everything is Micky, the clock the calendar the notepad, everything! There are those with CD players, I Pods and yes some still have an old fashioned radio. Some people cannot live with out at least one plant, how they keep them alive I do not know. You can tell who is always hot by the fan, who is cold by the blanket that is draped over the chair. There are the snackers and the health fanatics. The deep thinkers, they always have some deep quote written on their white board and those that everyone likes to pick on. They very often have something written on their white board that was obviously written by someone other then themselves. Then there are those who will decorate very elaborately for every holiday. Not sure when they find the time but they do.

My cube is somewhere in between organized and a bomb went off. I have more pictures then some but they are all of my grandchildren. I have more then just the bare minimum on the walls but not one piece of paper touches the next. There is never more then two or three days of beverage containers on the desk at any one time. I have a candy dish but at times it may sit empty. There is a Vikings blanket draped on my chair along with a sweater. I have not upgraded to an I Pod yet but I have moved beyond a radio. I have a few holiday and seasonal things I set out at the the appropriate times, that is when I remember to get them out of the drawer but I may not remember to put winter away until summer is almost over. Until today it was quite possibly one of the dirtiest. The cleaning people are not allowed to touch our desk, they are supposed to vacuum but I am sure that they do not do any more then make one sweep in and out because I know there are M&M's under my desk that have been there at least a year! I could not take the dust and the sticky spots any longer. I had to dust and 409 the place! It was disgusting! So for at least for a couple of days it should be fairly clean.

Cubes are as interesting as the people who spend a good deal of their lives in them. Our home away from home.

Surprise!

When I got home today I had a couple of surprises waiting for me. I opened my storm door and a box tipped over at my feet. It was the new laptop I ordered! I was so suprised because #1 I had gotten an email on the 3rd that said it would not be here for 9 to 11 days #2 I was suppose to have to sign for it. The way things have been going lately I am surprised it was still there.
I think once I get used to Windows Vista I am really going to enjoy my new present to myself. It even has a WebCam, although I have no idea what I will do with it. Oh that was another surprise, I had no idea it had one when I ordered it. And just think it will be a whole 6 mos before the thing is outdated! LOL

My next surprise was not as much fun. As I walked in the door I noticed there was a puddle of water on my dinning room table. I looked up and sure enough I have a leak in the ceiling. Well at least it was was warm enough out that the snow on the roof was melting. I should also be grateful because right before Christmas the neighbor that lives in the townhouse right next too me came home after a 13 hour day at work to find out that his upstairs toilet pipes had broken and the water ran the whole day. It was a real mess! I just need to keep reminding myself that somone always has it worse.

I also dissapionted Lora today. She read my blog from yesterday and was not very happy with me. She thinks that my statement that having a good life is the best revenge was not a very nice thing to say. I tried to explain to her that it was not meant in the true sense of the word revenge, but she would not have any of it. I am not sure I will ever make her understand and I hope she never needs to understand, but I need to revise my statement. So here is my attempt- living a good life is the best way for ME to prove I can move on. No matter what, she made me realize that sometimes I get so wrapped up in my own feelings that I forget how hard the last year has been on my kids.

Shannon, Nicole and Austen stopped by tonight and I discovered that the days of kisses from my grandson are over or about to be over, at least for now. He is actually a sensitive boy and is always willing to give hugs and kisses but tonight when they left I kissed and hugged him as usual. I got back a big hug and I love you too but no kiss. When I asked if I could get one I was told " you gave me a kiss and that makes sense." I guess seven years of kisses will have to do for now as long as I still get hugs. Hugs are pretty important, my Mom says everyone needs at least four hugs a day.
On that note I am sending out a cyper hug to anyone who reads this.
Hugs and kisses!

I'm a Newly

I did it! I made it through my first support group session. I was put in the Newly group. Technically I do not fit the Newly description. I was grateful when they put me in that group because one of my friends, who had encouraged me to go, told me they would probably want to put me in the Level I group but not too let them. So I was very happy when I did not have to be assertive on my first night and have to demand that I wanted to be a Newly. Most Newlys are newly separated /widowed or separated/widowed for less then a year. You can see that I do not really belong in this group. Emotionally I probably do. I still find it very hard to believe that I am divorced. I don't even FEEL like I am divorced. I feel like I am in this never ending nightmare of pain, humiliation and grief and I just need to wake up! I need to wake up alright! I am divorced, everything that happened did happen and he has moved on so I need to move on. Dr Singh told me that the best revenge is to live a good life. My head knows that but my heart says differently. I am doing all I can to get my heart to believe what my head already knows. As I sat there tonight and looked at the others in my small group, they all just had these glazed over looks on their faces. As for myself I sat and listened to the facilitators talk about what to expect and what was expected of each of us and how this support group could change our lives, and I continually fought back the urge to burst into tears. How am I ever going to make it though the next nine weeks?
The best revenge is to have a good life - the best revenge is to have a good life.

I Amit It, I Have An Addiction

I realized today I have an addiction. I am addicted to books. I went to Wal-Mart today (my first mistake) and as I was walking by the books, I noticed that my favorite true crime writer, Ann Rule, had a new book out. Against my better judgement I bought it. Now this wouldn't be such a bad thing but right now as I write this I have about four bins of books I have not read yet! That is just crazy. The book I was currently reading has been put aside so that I could read this new book. And even worse since I brought it home I have done nothing but read it. Well the Vikings are not in the play offs so I had no football to watch and I really wasn't much interested in the Wild Card games. Maybe next weekend I will be more interested. But anyway back to my issue. Rarely do I ever buy brand new books, most of my vast accumulation of books have been bought at garage sales, Goodwill or given to my by other book lovers. I have to buy them when I find them because I may never find that Patrica Cornwell or Jonathan Kellerman book for 50 cents again! I have to be addicted because I am tying to justify my actions. Hi my name is Kim and I am a bookaholic, so as part of the new me I will not buy another book again until I read at least one bins worth.

I will have to but the book down at least until commercials so that I can watch The Amazing Race tonight. One of my guilty pleasures. I think I enjoy this show because I wish I had the time or the energy to race around the world to places I would most likely otherwise not get to see and push myself to do things way outside of my comfort zone. What a story these people must have to tell when it is over. It must also be quite a challenge to spend 24/7 with someone for weeks. How some of them keep from killing each other I do not know. Maybe it has to do with the cameras video taping you all the time.

I should have taken advantage of the beautiful day and went for a walk. (Dang book) It was 45 degrees today and in SD in January that feels like 80. There was a lot of melting going on , water was running off the roof of my garage making it hard to get to my car without getting wet. I just heard on the news that messy weather was on they way. So what is that supposed to mean? More melting or more ice for people like me slip and fall on? Which leads me to my sore body, I did not get to the hockey game last night because I was still so sore I did not think I could sit in one place that long. Luckily I had not said anything to Austen so I did not disappoint him. If he had already been told I most likely would have suffered through it.

So the first weekend of 2008 has come and is almost gone, nothing eventful to say about it except it did not go as I planned but you know that is life.

New Year - New Me?

Well here goes my first official blog. Part of the New Me? Well it wasn't something I had thought of but a dear friend of mine started one so I thought why not make it part of the NEW ME.
I am very glad to have 2007 behind me and the New Year is a good time to make new starts.

I have decided to become a Sales Rep for Signature Homestyle. I just have to get 4 booking so that I can get started. I need to get motivated because I really want to do this to fill up some of my evenings. It will be a much better use of my time then sitting in front of the TV watching crappy shows. Which brings me to a thought - today I have at least 200 channels to choose from but there is rarely anything to watch. What is up with that! When I was a kid we probably only got 2 or 3 channels and we never complained about what was on.

I am going to start doing Yoga. I finally put back on weight but I am not liking the places that it decided to settle in. Is it really too much to ask that it land in your boobs? I don't weigh anymore then I did when I was sixteen but trust me the same amount of weight looks much different on a 50 year old body then it does on a 16 year old body. I have also heard that yoga is good for "middle aged" women in that it gives you balance and flexability. That point was driven home to me last night when I slipped on ice outside Chili's flat on my back. This morning getting out of bed was a little painful, my ass hurts, my head is sensitive where the egg is from hitting it on the concrete and my palm is sore with a big bruise. And get this they did not even offer to pay for my meal which was cold my the time I got it home! Can't wait until they call to check up on me, lets see, Friday night I would have settled for a free meal but, today I am not feeling too good about that. Seriously I am just grateful that nothing is broke.

Monday night I am going to begin attending a support group for the divorced and widowed. You would think after a year I would no longer need that but I have discovered that divorce can be almost more painful then death with a very long greiving process. I need to move on and learn how to stop the what ifs in my head, stop looking to get answers I will never get.

On the bright side I am taking my only grandson to the Stampede Hockey game tonight. I honestly do not undersand the game other then, fights are expected and the puck needs to get into the others goal, and oh yeah and you want the most goals. The sports lover that I am (watching not playing) finds the game really exciting. So Go Stampede!!!
